- Selection is Expected to Generate $750 Million in Revenue over 20 Years
CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 24, 2009--
Goodrich
Corporation (NYSE: GR) has been selected by Bombardier to design and
produce the high lift actuation system for the new Bombardier CSeries
family of commercial aircraft. The selection is expected to generate
more than $750 million in original equipment and aftermarket revenue
over 20 years. Work will be performed by Goodrich’s Actuation
Systems team in Wolverhampton, UK.
Goodrich will provide a fully integrated high lift flap and slat system
for the aircraft including actuators, power drive units, wing tip
brakes, electronic control units, cockpit levers, transmission shafts
and sensors. This new fully optimized design builds on the millions of
high lift flight hours experience gained across a wide range of aircraft
platforms, providing built-in maturity for the CSeries airliners. In
addition, Goodrich will provide complete system integration optimized
for the aircraft.
The Goodrich team in Wolverhampton will also provide the thrust reverser
actuation system, an integral part of the nacelle
system, for the Pratt & Whitney PurePower™ PW1000G engine that will
power the CSeries. Goodrich was selected to provide the nacelle system
for the PW1000G in 2008.
Eric Schulz, president, Goodrich Actuation Systems, said, “In providing
both the high lift and thrust reverser actuation systems to Bombardier,
we are leveraging our experience on these products to provide a truly
integrated and optimized solution for the new generation single-aisle
CSeries aircraft.”
The CSeries aircraft will emit 20* per cent less CO2 and 50*
per cent less NOx, fly four* times quieter, and deliver dramatic energy
savings – 20* per cent fuel burn advantage as well as 15* percent
improved cash operating costs – versus current in-production aircraft of
similar size. Launch customer Lufthansa is scheduled to receive up to 60
of the aircraft; entry into service is expected in 2013.
